This page explains, in plain language, what Feedstock India collects and why. It is written as a genuine attempt to be clear rather than as boilerplate — but it is not a substitute for legal advice, and if you're relying on it for compliance purposes you should have it reviewed by a lawyer familiar with your specific situation.
What is collected
If you sign up for the weekly email, Feedstock India collects your email address. Nothing else is asked for. The signup form also has a hidden field that real visitors never see or fill in, used only to catch automated bots — it's checked and discarded, never stored. When you submit the form, the server also briefly counts the IP address the request came from, purely to stop automated abuse (rate limiting); that count lives in server memory only, is never written to a log, never stored alongside your email address, and is never used to build any kind of profile. This site does not use tracking cookies or analytics scripts of any kind as of this writing — see "Cookies" below.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies at all — first-party or third-party. The only thing it stores in your browser is a single, strictly necessary preference: which colour theme (light or dark) you last chose, kept in your browser's local storage so the site doesn't flash the wrong theme on your next visit. That preference never leaves your browser, isn't linked to your email address if you subscribe, and doesn't require consent under any cookie law — but we're telling you about it anyway, for the same reason this whole page exists. Because there are no cookies and no tracking, there is no consent banner on this site; a banner would have nothing to ask consent for.
Why it's collected
Your email address is collected for exactly one purpose: to send you the weekly research brief you signed up for. It is not sold, rented, or shared with any third party for marketing purposes, and it is not used for anything beyond operating the mailing list itself.
Where it's stored
Email addresses are stored and the mailing itself is sent by Buttondown, a third-party email service provider that acts as the data processor for this list. Buttondown's own privacy policy and security practices govern how they handle that data on Feedstock India's behalf; Feedstock India does not operate its own database of subscriber emails outside of Buttondown's platform.
How to unsubscribe
Every email sent through the list includes an unsubscribe link. Clicking it removes you immediately, with no need to contact anyone.
How to request deletion
Unsubscribing removes you from future mailings. If you'd like your email address deleted from Buttondown's records entirely rather than just unsubscribed, or if you have any other question about your data, contact . Deletion requests are honored promptly.
Your rights, under India's DPDP Act and under GDPR
Whether you're reading this from India, the UK, the EU, or elsewhere, you have the right to know what's held about you, to have it corrected if it's wrong, to have it erased, and to withdraw your consent to further processing at any time — withdrawing consent is as simple as unsubscribing or emailing the address above. The legal basis for collecting your email address is your consent, given when you submit the signup form; no other legal basis is relied on. Your email address is retained for as long as you remain subscribed, and is deleted from Buttondown's active list as soon as you unsubscribe (Buttondown's own systems may retain a record of the unsubscribe event itself, as is standard practice to honor suppression lists). Because Buttondown is a US-based service provider, your email address is processed and stored outside India and, depending on where you're reading from, outside the UK/EU as well — by signing up, you're consenting to that transfer for the sole purpose of receiving the email.
If you have a complaint about how your data is handled that isn't resolved by contacting the address above, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in India, the Data Protection Board once constituted under the DPDP Act; in the UK, the ICO; in the EU, your national supervisory authority).
